A quiet place near Sunriver to gather after a loss

For a gathering of up to 45 people who want a private, quiet setting, the estate offers 450 feet of Deschutes River frontage and three acres to themselves. It sits at the end of a dead-end private road, with 80 acres of trees on one side and protected river habitat across the water.

The estate is a rental house, not a funeral home or a chapel. The family brings the program, the speakers and the food, and the house provides the space and the beds.

What the estate cannot do, said plainly

Before anything else, check these limits, because they decide whether the estate fits.

  • No day rentals. The gathering is always part of an overnight stay.
  • The minimum stay is 2 nights on every booking.
  • Quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM.
  • The total is up to 45 people, including children, even if they are not staying overnight.

If you need a single afternoon, a hotel meeting room or a community hall will serve you better. If you want the family together for a weekend, read on.

A two-night stay for family traveling to Sunriver

The two-night minimum suits a gathering where relatives travel. They arrive the day before, hold the gathering the next day, and leave the day after. Check-in is after 4 PM and check-out is before 11 AM.

The estate has 11 bedrooms and 6 baths, split between the six-bedroom Lodge and the five-bedroom Cottage. The Cottage is a separate building steps from the Lodge, so those who want more quiet have a second place to retreat to.

Rooms and beds are on the whole estate page. The Cottage is not rented alone, but the Lodge sleeps up to 18 and can be booked on its own.

Where people sit, talk and eat on the Deschutes

The gathering can use the 12-foot dining table, the wrap-around covered deck and two large living areas with stone fireplaces. The table seats twelve on benches and chairs, with more chairs and folding tables available.

Outdoors there are four 8-foot picnic tables in a row and about 16 folding chairs. The dock has Adirondack chairs, and a hammock hangs by the water. People who need a few minutes alone can walk the stone-paved path along the river.

Food for a gathering near Sunriver: catered or potluck

The kitchen can take either a caterer's trays or potluck dishes. It has a large butcher-block island, a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide and Breville espresso. There is also a kitchenette with a microwave and a small dishwasher.

The large gas grill is on the covered deck. The estate shares a vendor list through Epicurate that names private chefs. For groceries, Bend has Costco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Newport Avenue Market, and the Sunriver Country Store, in the Village at Sunriver, covers last-minute items.

Music at a gathering on the Deschutes

No amplified music: no DJs, no subwoofers, no professional music setups. Live music ensembles and small Bluetooth speakers are fine. If unsure, please ask.

What family groups said

“Our family enjoyed the house very much. It was at a dead endstreet, so was really quiet. If we had questions, Scott was available and responded pretty quickly. There was plenty of things for our grandkids to do. Would go again.”

Darrel · Group trip · Airbnb · July 2025

“We enjoyed Scott’s home for a family reunion that brought us in from four different states. Highly recommend to others! The property and all amenities offered lots of entertainment for ages ranging from 4 months - 88 years lived.

Thanks a million for sharing this piece of paradise.”
