Why Sunriver suits three generations in one house
Sunriver suits three generations because each one can set its own pace on one property. The grandparents can sit on the dock, the parents can ride the paths, and the kids can float the river right from the dock.
The estate sits at the end of a dead-end private road in the Three Rivers area near Sunriver. There are 80 acres of trees on one side and protected river habitat across the water. Nobody drives between units.
The main-floor king suite for grandparents at the Sunriver house
The grandparents get the Lodge's main-floor King with a private full bath. That King is one of three bedrooms on the Lodge's main floor. The upstairs floor plan places the primary bedroom with its king bed on the same floor as the kitchen, living and dining rooms.
The Primary Suite has a king bed and panoramic river views, under a vaulted ceiling with a wooden dresser and mirror. The table below repeats the Lodge and Cottage room lists exactly.
| Building and floor | Beds | Bath |
|---|---|---|
| Lodge, main floor | King | Private full bath |
| Lodge, main floor | Two sets of twin bunks | Attached full bath with tub |
| Lodge, main floor | Queen | Not listed |
| Lodge, downstairs | King plus twin bunk | Private full bath |
| Lodge, downstairs | King plus twin bunk | Private full bath and tub |
| Lodge, downstairs | Queen | Full bath just outside the room |
| Cottage, main floor | Two bedrooms: a Full bed and a Twin bunk | One bath |
| Cottage, upstairs | Three bedrooms, each with a Full bed | Not listed |
Bunk rooms for the cousins, pack-n-plays and cots for the babies
The cousins share the main-floor bunk room: two sets of twin bunks with an attached full bath and tub. Two downstairs bedrooms each pair a King with a twin bunk, so a parent and a small child can share a room. Two pack-n-plays and six cots are on hand for the littlest travelers, with no linens provided for these.
The Cottage adds a Twin bunk on its main floor and three upstairs bedrooms with a Full bed each. The teenagers can have a building of their own. Beyond the bedrooms, a futon and a small twin sofa bed sit by the pool table.
Two living areas, so naps and games coexist
Two large living areas on two floors let the toddler nap while the cousins play pool. The Lodge has one living area upstairs and one downstairs, with vaulted ceilings and stone fireplaces. The game room downstairs holds the pool table, ping pong and an arcade cabinet. A 65-inch 4K TV with DISH, Blu-ray and gaming consoles covers the movie crowd.
The Cottage is a third option, steps from the Lodge, with a wood stove and a built-in window seat in its living room. The grandparents who want an early night, or the family with a baby, can take it and still walk over for dinner.
Stairs and the lower level: what the floor plans show
The Lodge is on two floors, and the Cottage is a two-story cabin. The main floor of the Lodge is the upper floor, with the kitchen, the living and dining rooms and three bedrooms. Downstairs are the game room, the second living room and three more bedrooms, as the table above lists them.
A mudroom with a built-in bench and coat hooks sits beside a glass door to the outside. A stacked washer and dryer is in a hallway closet by the game room. The Cottage has two bedrooms and one bath on its main floor, and three bedrooms upstairs. Step counts, ramps and grab bars are not listed here. If someone in the family needs step-free access, ask through the contact page before you book.
The dock on the Deschutes and gentle activities for every age
The private dock on 450 feet of Deschutes River frontage suits every age. The grandparents get the Adirondack chairs, a hammock hangs by the water, and the kids float the gentle river stretch, watching for eagles and otters. Bring your own water toys and PFDs, since none are provided. Small boats can be hand-launched at the dock.
On land, the private 6-hole disc golf course, bocce and yard games keep the middle generation moving. A covered hot tub sits on the deck. Off the property, the Sunriver Owners Association maintains more than 34 miles of family-friendly paved bike and pedestrian trails. Oregon law requires riders under 16 to wear helmets (ORS 814.485). Sunriver Sports rents bikes from its Rental Building 13 in Sunriver, 9 to 6 daily.
The Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory, at 57245 River Rd, is home to birds of prey, bees and other native wildlife. It has a botanic garden, nature trails and programs for all ages, and hours change by season. See things to do in Sunriver for more.
Meals for a big family: the 12-foot table and the grocery run to Bend
Three generations eat at one 12-foot indoor dining table with benches and chairs. Outside, four 8-foot picnic tables sit in a row for outdoor dining, and a large gas grill is on the covered deck. The kitchen has a large butcher-block island with bar stools, a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide and a Breville espresso machine.
The Cottage has its own kitchen for breakfast on a different schedule. For the big shop, Bend has Costco, Trader Joe's, Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, WinCo and Newport Avenue Market, about 30 minutes away. Closer in, the Sunriver Country Store covers the essentials and last-minute items.
For a night out, make reservations for larger groups, especially on summer weekends. The where to eat guide lists the Village at Sunriver and south Bend options.

What three-generation families said
“Scott was a friendly, proactive and attentive host who communicated clearly and quickly. The setting was serene and beautiful. It was the perfect place for a family reunion of all ages. We saw elk and deer as we drove down the long gravel road. Max speed is 10 MPH which is the perfect speed to really notice if there are elk are around! I really appreciated the quality beds, linens, pillows and towels. The house has many views of the Deschutes River. The dock was a favorite place for the kids. The wrap around deck had plenty of quality seating. The smaller house worked great for my sister’s family of 6 adults and one newborn baby. The main house accommodated the rest of my extended family quite nicely! Do be sure to realize that for larger families, the members need to be comfortable sharing rooms with bunk beds. The description and photos are 100% ACCURATE!”
“Our family enjoyed the house very much. It was at a dead endstreet, so was really quiet. If we had questions, Scott was available and responded pretty quickly. There was plenty of things for our grandkids to do. Would go again.”
“We enjoyed Scott’s home for a family reunion that brought us in from four different states. Highly recommend to others! The property and all amenities offered lots of entertainment for ages ranging from 4 months - 88 years lived.
Thanks a million for sharing this piece of paradise.”
