Why one house near Sunriver beats scattered rentals
Reunions work best when nobody is driving between units. Everyone wakes up in the same place, shares the same coffee on the dock, and ends the day around the same table. Kids can roam safely on the property while the adults catch up. No one misses the moments that make a reunion worth the trip.
The estate is one private property that sleeps up to 30, instead of four separate condos stitched together. It sits at the end of a dead-end private road, with 80 acres of trees on one side.
Rooms for every generation at the Sunriver estate
Eleven bedrooms span the six-bedroom Lodge and the five-bedroom Cottage, with six baths in all. King suites suit grandparents, bunk rooms delight the kids, and the Primary Suite has a king bed and panoramic river views. Two Lodge bedrooms pair a King with a twin bunk, so a family can share a room.
| Building and floor | Beds | Bath |
|---|---|---|
| Lodge, main floor | King | Private full bath |
| Lodge, main floor | Two sets of twin bunks | Attached full bath with tub |
| Lodge, main floor | Queen | Not listed |
| Lodge, downstairs | King plus twin bunk | Private full bath |
| Lodge, downstairs | King plus twin bunk | Private full bath and tub |
| Lodge, downstairs | Queen | Full bath just outside the room |
| Cottage, main floor | Two bedrooms: a Full bed and a Twin bunk | One bath |
| Cottage, upstairs | Three bedrooms, each with a Full bed | Not listed |
Beyond the bedrooms, a futon and a small twin sofa bed sit by the pool table. Two pack-n-plays and six cots are on hand for the littlest travelers, with no linens provided for these. Floor plans for both buildings are on the property details page.
The Cottage: a separate cabin on the same Deschutes riverbank
The Cottage gives one branch of the family its own front door, steps from the Lodge. It is the original rustic 1960s fishing and logging cabin, with five small bedrooms and a mix of double and twin beds. The wood stove sits in the living room, firewood is just outside, and the Deschutes River is out the door. A mini-split heats and cools the space from a remote on the wall.
The Cottage is not rented on its own; it comes as part of the full 11-bedroom estate. That makes it a natural fit for the grandparents, or for the family whose kids need the earliest bedtime. See the Cottage page for photos and the 3D tour.
Where 30 people gather: two living areas, the deck and the dock on the Deschutes
Two large living areas with vaulted ceilings and stone fireplaces give the group a big room to gather in. The second room suits the card game or the movie. A wrap-around covered deck runs the length of the Lodge, with a gas grill, seating and a dining set.
Below the deck, a flagstone patio with red chairs leads to a covered hot tub. Your own dock with Adirondack chairs and a hammock sits on 450 feet of private frontage. The seasonal fire pit by the river is ringed with chairs among the pines; there are no fires June through September.
Meals for 30: the kitchen, the 12-foot table and the picnic tables
Big family meals work here because the table, the kitchen and the outdoor seating are all sized for the group. A 12-foot indoor dining table with benches and chairs seats one shift, and four 8-foot picnic tables outside seat another. About 16 folding chairs and some folding tables fill in the gaps.
The kitchen has a large butcher-block island with bar stools and two of several appliances. Named gear includes a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide and a Breville espresso machine. The Cottage has its own kitchen, and the Lodge has a kitchenette with a microwave and a small dishwasher.
For the grocery run, Bend is about 30 minutes away. It has Fred Meyer, plus Costco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, WinCo and Newport Avenue Market on the north and west sides of town. Costco moved to Northwest Costco Drive, at Highway 20 and Robal Road, in October 2024. Closer in, the Sunriver Country Store in the Village at Sunriver is a full grocery store with a deli and a liquor store. Make reservations for larger groups, especially on summer weekends; the where to eat guide has the full list.
Kids' spaces on the Deschutes: the dock, disc golf and the game room
Kids have the river, the lawn and a game room. The private dock and gentle river stretch are made for floating and watching for eagles and otters. Bring your own water toys and PFDs, since none are provided; small boats can be hand-launched at the dock.
On land there is a private 6-hole disc golf course, bocce, yard games and outdoor ping pong. Inside, there is a game room with a pool table and ping pong, an arcade cabinet and an Xbox. There is a 65-inch TV with DISH. A stacked washer and dryer sits in a hallway closet.
Sunriver itself adds more than 34 miles of paved, family-friendly bike and pedestrian paths, maintained by the Sunriver Owners Association. Oregon law requires riders under 16 to wear a helmet. Sunriver Sports is handy if you would rather rent bikes near the house, and our Sunriver with kids guide has the longer list.
A reunion weekend plan near Sunriver, day by day
A three-night reunion fits a simple pattern: arrive and eat, one full day on the property, one day out, and a slow last morning. Check-in is after 4:00 PM and check-out is before 11:00 AM. The 3-day Sunriver plan for large groups goes deeper.
- Friday: stop in Bend for groceries on the way in, then eat at the 12-foot table. Shoes come off inside, and quiet hours start at 9:00 PM.
- Saturday morning: coffee on the dock, then floating for the kids and a disc golf round for the uncles. The 6-hole course is private, so nobody waits.
- Saturday afternoon: SHARC is about ten minutes away; the public is welcome via a daily gate fee, and passes are not included. The Sunriver Nature Center is home to birds of prey, bees and other native wildlife, with an observatory for stargazing after dark.
- Saturday evening: grill on the covered deck, dinner at the four picnic tables, and the fire pit if the season allows. There are no fires June through September; May and October are weather dependent.
- Sunday: the High Desert Museum, on Hwy 97 in Bend, has otters, porcupines, a bobcat and birds of prey in flight. In winter, Mt. Bachelor is about 30 minutes away instead.
- Monday: a group photo on the dock, pack-n-plays folded, and out by 11:00 AM.

Winter and shoulder-season reunions near Mt. Bachelor

An Oregon Sno-Park permit ($4 a day, $25 for the season) is required at designated Sno-Parks from November 1 through April 30. SHARC runs a winter tubing hill, and snow weekends book up early; see Mt. Bachelor ski trip lodging.
What family reunions said
“Scott was a friendly, proactive and attentive host who communicated clearly and quickly. The setting was serene and beautiful. It was the perfect place for a family reunion of all ages. We saw elk and deer as we drove down the long gravel road. Max speed is 10 MPH which is the perfect speed to really notice if there are elk are around! I really appreciated the quality beds, linens, pillows and towels. The house has many views of the Deschutes River. The dock was a favorite place for the kids. The wrap around deck had plenty of quality seating. The smaller house worked great for my sister’s family of 6 adults and one newborn baby. The main house accommodated the rest of my extended family quite nicely! Do be sure to realize that for larger families, the members need to be comfortable sharing rooms with bunk beds. The description and photos are 100% ACCURATE!”
“We enjoyed Scott’s home for a family reunion that brought us in from four different states. Highly recommend to others! The property and all amenities offered lots of entertainment for ages ranging from 4 months - 88 years lived.
Thanks a million for sharing this piece of paradise.”
“This was an exceptional location for our family reunion. Plenty of space for everyone and the riverside location was perfect for cooling off in the heat. Truly a special place if you have a large group. Labeling and equipment stocking in the kitchen was called “next level” by several people. We loved all the exterior seating options, hammocks and large picnic table space. Fabulous memories!”
