Fireworks are prohibited in Sunriver and on the Deschutes National Forest, so any show is a public one. Fourth of July in Sunriver at a glance: dates, heat, and the fireworks rule
July 4, 2026, is a Saturday, and the main public events in Sunriver and Bend fall on that day. The Village festival runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Bend's Pet Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. Bend's fireworks are in doubt: Visit Central Oregon lists a 10 p.m. Pilot Butte show, but Bend Magazine's June 22, 2026 guide says Bend has no public show this year. NOAA normals put the July mean high in Sunriver at 84.1 degrees and the mean low at 41.0, so the week is hot by day and cold by night.
Two rules decide the evening. The Sunriver Owners Association's rules state that all fireworks, including sparklers, are prohibited in Sunriver. The Deschutes National Forest prohibits fireworks and exploding targets on national forest lands under 36 CFR 261.5. The City of Bend has prohibited the sale and use of fireworks inside city limits since 2021. Any fireworks you see are a public show.
Sunriver's July 4 festival and bike parade in the Village
The Sunriver 4th of July Festival and Bike Parade is the day's main event, at the Village at Sunriver, 57100 Beaver Drive, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4, 2026. Visit Central Oregon lists live entertainment, contests, carnival games, pony rides, a rock wall, balloon creations, food, and displays of police and fire vehicles. Riders sign up for the bike parade through the registration link on the event page. Tickets cost $1 each, and proceeds benefit local charities that serve children.
Sunriver Resort builds a weekend around the holiday. Bend Magazine's guide lists a Patriotic Pets photo contest, a summer concert and sunset float at the marina, a pickleball partner challenge on July 4, and a Red, White and Brew tasting the day after. On July 8, 2023, the resort ran Independence Illumination, a 75-drone light show on the lawn behind the Lodge at Sunriver Resort, with live music from 7 p.m. and the show at 9:30 p.m. Check the resort's events page for the current year's schedule before you plan the evening around it.
Sunriver Resort is about ten minutes from the house. The group that would rather skip the crowd stays on the river; the rest of Sunriver's summer is in summer in Sunriver.
Bend's Pet Parade and the question of Bend fireworks
Bend's Pet Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on July 4, 2026, with staging at Harmon Park from 8:30 a.m. The route runs north on Harmon to Newport Avenue, east to Wall Street, and south to Drake Park. No registration is needed: parade in costume with your pet or a stuffed animal on a pulled wagon, bike, or trike, or watch from the route. Leash your pet and clean up after it. Rabbits, cats, and aggressive animals are not permitted, and the best parking is on the outer edge of downtown or in the garage.
Visit Central Oregon's July 4 guide describes a 20-minute fireworks show launched from Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint on Highway 20 at 10 p.m., but the page's headline says 2025. Bend Magazine's June 22, 2026 guide says there is currently no public Fourth of July fireworks show within the city of Bend because of wildfire risk and dry conditions, and points visitors to Redmond, Prineville, La Pine, or other nearby towns. Treat a Bend show as unconfirmed and check the week of.
Bend is about 30 minutes from the house. The house has parking for up to 15 vehicles, so a group can leave together. The Bend day in general is in Sunriver vs Bend.
Fireworks are illegal on the Deschutes National Forest and in Sunriver
Private fireworks are off the table in Sunriver and on the national forest. The Forest Service's fire-restrictions page for the Deschutes National Forest lists fireworks and exploding targets as prohibited under 36 CFR 261.5, a permanent rule that does not depend on the restriction stage. SROA's rules prohibit all fireworks in Sunriver, sparklers included, and a 2022 Sunriver Chamber notice said patrols in Sunriver would be looking for people illegally using fireworks. In Bend, the city bans their sale and use.
At the house, there are no candles or open flames, the fire pit is closed June through September, and the property is non-smoking. The gas grill on the covered deck is the only fire in July. The 2026 Stage 1 forest order took effect May 18, scheduled through November 30 unless rescinded, and prohibited open fires on forest land outside Forest Service fire rings at designated recreation sites. The Central Oregon fire information line is 1-800-523-4737.
The Deschutes River from the dock on a hot Fourth of July week
The river is where a group of 30 spends the hot afternoons. The estate has a private dock on 450 feet of Deschutes River frontage, and small boats can be hand-launched there. Float from the dock, hand-launch a kayak or paddleboard, or fish subject to seasonal regulations. The Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road.
Bring your own water toys and PFDs; none are provided. A review from a July 4 group of 25 says the kids floated the river practically every day right back to the backyard. The float stretches, the outfitters in the Village, and the life-jacket law are in the Deschutes River at Sunriver. Check the Oregon Smoke Blog, managed by Oregon DEQ, for smoke advisories before a river day.

What July groups said
“This house gave us memories for years to come for our family 4th of July get together. It fit 25 of us comfortably. The dogs absolutely loved the yard and the river. The kids floated the river practically every day right back to the backyard. It was big enough for us to sit around and socialize in one area. The amenities were great for a big group. We'd definitely recommend and stay here again!”
“Our family enjoyed the house very much. It was at a dead endstreet, so was really quiet. If we had questions, Scott was available and responded pretty quickly. There was plenty of things for our grandkids to do. Would go again.”
