The La Pine Rodeo and La Pine Frontier Days fill the Fourth of July weekend in La Pine, Oregon: three evening rodeo performances with a concert after each, and four days of a parade, lawnmower races, cook-offs and live music a few blocks away. Deschutes Riverfront Retreat is an 11-bedroom riverfront house north of La Pine near Sunriver, 15 to 20 minutes from the rodeo grounds, that sleeps up to 30 (maximum 24 adults). It fits the family reunion that wants the rodeo one night, the river the next day and the parade on the Fourth.

Why a family reunion books the house for rodeo weekend instead of La Pine or Sunriver rooms
Rodeo weekend is the Fourth of July, the busiest week of the year in Sunriver, and a reunion of 20 to 30 does not fit in a row of rooms. One property puts the grandparents, the cousins and the toddlers in two buildings a few steps apart, the six-bedroom Lodge and the five-bedroom Cottage, with a kitchen for the pre-rodeo dinner and a river for the hot afternoon before the 5 PM gates.
The house is on the Sunriver side of La Pine, so the same stay covers the Fourth of July in Sunriver: the Village festival and bike parade, floating from the dock, and the fireworks rule (none at the house, none in Sunriver; La Pine's are after the rodeo). The La Pine guide covers the town, the Little Deschutes and the state park.
A four-night rodeo and Frontier Days plan for 30 from the house
The plan below is the 2026 shape of the weekend applied to a stay; move the days to match the year's dates.
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Arrival, two days before the Fourth | Check in after 4 PM; grocery run in Bend on the way; first swim from the dock; dinner at the four 8-foot picnic tables |
| Rodeo night one | Afternoon on the river; early dinner at the 12-foot table; leave by 4:30 for the 5 PM gates; home after the 7 PM performance or stay for the concert |
| The Fourth | Woodcutters' breakfast at 7 AM in La Pine for the early risers, the parade mid-morning, the lawnmower races at 2 PM; back to the river; the final rodeo night with fireworks after, and a late drive home on a crowded US-97 |
| The day after | Sleep in. Disc golf, bocce, the hot tub or the Sunriver paths |
| Check-out | Before 11 AM |
Quiet hours at the house are 9 PM to 8 AM, which is a real constraint on rodeo nights: the group that stays for the 9:30 PM concert and the fireworks comes home after 10 and comes in quietly. The grandparents and the toddlers who leave after the bull riding are in bed before anyone else is back.
Where a reunion sleeps: 11 rooms in two buildings near Sunriver
Eleven bedrooms and six baths split between the six-bedroom Lodge and the five-bedroom Cottage, a separate building a few steps away. Four of the rooms have bunks, which is where the cousins go; the Primary Suite has a king and the river view; the Cottage, with its own kitchen and a wood stove, suits the family that keeps different hours.
The bed-by-bed table for all 11 rooms is on large group rentals near Sunriver; the floor plans and 3D tour are on the whole retreat page.
Two pack-n-plays and six cots are available, with no linens provided for them. The family reunion page covers the reunion itself: splitting rooms, cooking for 30, and keeping a 4-month-old and an 88-year-old happy in the same house, as one reunion here did.
Parking, trucks and the drive from the house to La Pine
Parking at the house is for up to 15 vehicles, with room for vans and trailers, and a trailer can turn around on site. A family arriving with a horse trailer for a cousin in the rodeo should say so when booking, with the rig length.
From the house: Sunriver Resort and SHARC are five miles and about ten minutes, Bend and Mt. Bachelor are each about 30 minutes, and the Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road.
La Pine is south on US-97; the rodeo grounds are on 3rd Street at the edge of town. Leaving the rodeo after the fireworks on the Fourth, US-97 is slow; allow an hour home instead of twenty minutes. Chief Paulina Drive, the last stretch to the house, is a shared dirt road at 10 MPH.
The house rules that matter on rodeo weekend
The rules that decide whether this house fits a group: the renter must be 30 or older, every booking has a 2-night minimum, quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, and occupancy is capped at 30 guests (24 adults) because the home is on well and septic. Dogs are welcome for a pet fee once approved on your reservation. The full list, the deposit and the cancellation terms are on house rules and Book Now.
- No fireworks, sparklers or open flame of any kind on the property, and no fires June through September: the fire pit is closed over the Fourth.
- The property is non-smoking, and shoes come off inside; boots at the mudroom bench.
- Dogs are welcome for the pet fee; the property is not fenced, and the Fourth's fireworks carry across the river, so plan for a nervous dog.
- Camping on the property is not permitted unless approved in advance.
What rodeo weekend costs for 20 to 30, and how to book
Nightly rates run about 1,000 to 4,000 dollars plus taxes and fees. For 24 adults, that is 42 to 167 dollars a person a night before taxes and fees. The Fourth of July week books far ahead; check the live calendar on Book Now and book direct to skip the channel fees. How to split the cost of a group house covers collecting from the cousins.
