You need all the details to make sure this is the perfect vacation rental for you and your crew.

Let’s get into it!

Deschutes Riverfront Retreat
Book Now

Our vacation rental is comprised of the Riverside Lodge & Cottage, the adjacent homes are at the end of a dead end private road, with the river on one side and 80 acres of trees on another. Across the river from the property is Deschutes River floodplain habitat, creating an even more natural and private setting for enjoying the nature and wildlife of Central Oregon.

Deschutes Riverfront Retreat

The River

  • One of our favorite activities is floating the stretch of the Deschutes River just south of Sunriver. If you have a boat or robust flotation device, you can drive 5 minutes up the S Century Drive and put in at the Big River Boating Site. From here, you can enjoy a leisurely float of about 60-90 minutes directly back to our dock. If you want a longer float, you can also keep going and take out in Sunriver. Osprey and Bald Eagles are commonly seen. River Otters and other wildlife have also joined our family!

Our family also really enjoys tubing the rapids and watching the river surfing in Bend.

  • Rent your river vessel at one of the many places nearby. Check out Sunriver ToyHouse, where they rent kayaks, SUPs, tubes, and giant inflatable islands.

We unfortunately don’t provide river toys for insurance and liability reasons.

  • Whether you are enjoying the view of the river from the deck or you're out on a float, the variety of wildlife that you will likely see never disappoints. Bald eagles, osprey, elk, mule deer, great blue herons, river otters, jumping fish, lizards, and many more are a common occurrence.

You can learn more about Sunriver’s, Bend’s, and Central Oregon’s wildlife at the Sunriver Nature Center or High Desert Museum. Both highly recommended!

  • We don't recommend swimming in the river unless you’re a very strong swimmer. The water is often colder than you think it would be, and the current is stronger than it appears. If you do choose to swim, wear a life jacket. No jumping off the dock! There are submerged rocks, and it can be either very shallow or deep depending on the riverflow. Dipping in from the bank by the cottage is a great way to cool off, but is not accessible for those with mobility challenges.

  • To help stop erosion, please carry boats and don't drag them up and down the embankment. Absolutely no littering. Please try to minimize impact to native grass, plants, etc.

If you see purple knapweed or mullein, feel free to pull these invasive species and toss them in the garbage :)

  • The river is beautiful and a lot of fun when everyone is safe, sober, and diligent. By staying at our property, any and all activities are done at your own risk. Use of narcotics or alcohol increases those risks.

Deschutes Riverfront Retreat

The House

  • It doesn't get any better than a hot tub overlooking the river from the hot tub! Please use the hot tub towels (non-white towels) and follow the hot tub rules posted downstairs. (tl/dr: no food, no glass, no jumping, monitor kiddos, no drugs/alochol, additional fees may be charged for damage.)

  • Outdoor fires are only permitted seasonally based on wildfire risk. If the fire pit is uncovered, and La Pine fire department is allowing fires (call 541.536.9056), please keep the fire a reasonable size, take wildfire risks seriously year round, and keep a bucket of water and hose ready. You are required by the fire department to complete the permit (found in the back of this binder) to have on hand. Failure to follow the permit requirements can lead to fines from the fire department.

  • Our vacation rental has AC! In the lodge, there are 3 heating zones, each controlled by a Nest thermostat: One in the main living area, one in the upstairs master bedroom, and one in the downstairs kitchenette. In the cottage, there is a mini split that is operated by a remote control attached to the wall.

The lodge has a gas fireplace in the living room, which can be turned on/off using the switch just to the right of the fireplace. Please be sure to turn this off at night and keep items a safe distance from the fireplace.

In addition to the remote-control-operated mini split in the cottage, which acts as a heater and AC unit, there is a wood burning stove you are welcome to utilize. There are operating instructions by the mantle. You are welcome to utilize the wood outside the cottage for this purpose.

Our Central Oregon high desert climate typically cools off in the evening, and has low humidity - making it great to open windows in the evening.

  • Our vacation rental is equipped with 40mpbs internet. We have outfitted several areas with a mesh wifi system (the small white towers) to ensure you can get wifi in most points in the lodge and cottage. (But don't work too hard!) There is also a Sonos sound bar in the main living area that you can stream music through when connected to the wifi.

  • There are two sets of W/D in the lodge and one in the cottage, along with laundry detergent for your stay. No need to start laundry for your departure. All linens are washed offsite at a separate facility after your stay. Please don't use bleach as it is bad for the septic system.

  • There is a gas grill on the back deck you are welcome to enjoy. No need to worry about empty propane tanks - the grill is piped directly to our central propane tank for the house. Please be sure the grill is a safe distance from the house when in use. To use the grill, you will need to use the red propane timer on the lower right side of the grill before use. This ensures the grill isn’t left on for long periods of time.

  • Our vacation rental has 2 ping pong tables. There’s a basic table in the garage, but the highlight is the commercial outdoor ping pong table overlooking our little stretch of the Deschutes River.

    • Kitchen Appliances: Breville Espresso Machine, Kitchen-Aid mixer, Vitamix, air fryer, waffle makers, rice cooker, hand mixer, coffee maker, 2x french press, electric tea kettle, toaster - to name a few!

    • Starter supplies of: toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, bathroom toiletries

    • Games for days! 6 hole disc golf, bocce, 2x ping pong (indoor and outdoor!), full pool table, table top arcade game, board games, puzzles

    • XBox ONE (main floor lodge)

    • 3 TVs and bluray, including one 70" TV w/ DISH network and PAC 12 Football

    • Children's books and toys

    • Hair dryers

More Info

  • Check in after 4:00pm

    Check out by 10:45am

Our housekeeping team will be working hard to get the home ready for your stay. Especially during the busy months, many of our reservations have back-to-back guests and early check-in (and/or late check-out) may not be an option. Please do not attempt to access the home prior to the designated check-in time without prior approval.

There is an electronic lock on the door to make it simple and easy to access the home, whenever you arrive. Your unique access code will be provided to you prior to your stay via email.

  • While this part isn't as fun as amenities and local attractions, sticking to these rules helps us continue to share this special place with groups like yours. So, rules first!

The house and the surrounding property are completely non-smoking.

Sound travels quite a bit on the river. While you are on vacation, some of our neighbors are not, and they will let us (and occasionally local law enforcement) know if they aren't getting a good night's sleep. Please respect our neighbors (24/7!) and adhere to quiet hours from 9:00pm to 8:00am.

Please remove your shoes inside the house.

Don't exceed the maximum occupancy of the home at any point, even if guests are not staying overnight, without first reaching out for approval. We have these maximums for a reason, with the home being on a septic and well.

    No candles or open flames.

If they have been approved on your reservation (and pet fee paid), we welcome dogs because we know they are part of the family. Please keep pets off of the furniture, including beds. Please pick up all dog poop. Don't leave dogs unattended in the home.

The home is on a well and septic system. Don't flush anything down the toilet outside of toilet paper and please don't put food/oil down the kitchen drain.

Please drive slowly on the entirety of Chief Paulina road. There are families and pets along the way. Being a dirt road, a lot of dust also gets kicked up at higher speeds.

If you utilize the hot tub, please adhere to the rules posted.

If anything is damaged or there is an issue, please let us know right away
