Why a wrestling program books a house near Sunriver in January

January is the quiet season here, which means the dates are open and the rate is at the low end of the year. A program of 20 gets one kitchen for the 5:30 AM weigh-in breakfast and the post-weigh-in second breakfast, one table for the team meeting, a covered hot tub on the patio for Friday night, and bunk rooms built for teenagers. The parents get the King rooms and a fireplace.

The drive is the honest trade: Redmond is 50 to 55 minutes, more in snow. Redmond's hotel rooms go to 104 teams in one weekend; a team that stays here leaves at 6 and is weighed in on time.

The winter drive from the house to the Redmond fairgrounds

Highway 97 north through Bend to Redmond is plowed and busy at 6 AM in January. Chief Paulina Drive, the dirt road in, is maintained but can need traction in a storm; bring chains or traction tires for the vans, which Oregon law requires you to carry in the mountains in winter anyway. From the house: Sunriver Resort and SHARC are five miles and about ten minutes, Bend and Mt. Bachelor are each about 30 minutes, and the Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road.

Snow and Mt. Bachelor: if the program stays Sunday, Bachelor is 30 minutes the other way. The season and the road are in winter in Sunriver and Bend.

Where 14 wrestlers, coaches and parents sleep: bunk rooms in the Lodge, the Cottage next door

The Lodge's bunk room holds two sets of twin bunks and two of its King rooms add a twin bunk; the Cottage next door has four Full beds and a Twin bunk, a kitchen and its own front door. A team and two coaches in the Cottage, parents and the head coach in the Lodge, is the usual split. Thirty is the cap, children included. The bed-by-bed table for all 11 rooms is on large group rentals near Sunriver; the floor plans and 3D tour are on the whole retreat page.

Weigh-in meals and laundry: the kitchen and the washer at the house near Sunriver

The main kitchen has double appliances and a 12-foot table that seats twelve; the Cottage kitchen does the second shift. A stacked washer and dryer in the Lodge turns singlets and headgear liners overnight. Costco and Fred Meyer are in Bend on the way in, 30 minutes north; feeding 30 people near Sunriver has the plan.

The house rules that matter for a high school team near Sunriver

A coach or parent who is 30 or older is the renter. Quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, which a program with a 5:30 weigh-in keeps anyway. Outdoor fires are allowed in winter; the fire pit is down by the river.

The rules that decide whether this house fits a group: the renter must be 30 or older, every booking has a 2-night minimum, quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, and occupancy is capped at 30 guests (24 adults) because the home is on well and septic. Dogs are welcome for a pet fee once approved on your reservation. The full list, the deposit and the cancellation terms are on house rules and Book Now.

What the Classic weekend costs for a program of 15 to 30, and how to book

Two or three nights in January split across a program is the comparison with Redmond hotel rooms that sell out. The live calendar shows the rate for your dates. The other events teams book this house for are on team and event lodging near Bend and Sunriver, and the equestrian state meet has its own page.

Nightly rates run about 1,000 to 4,000 dollars plus taxes and fees. For 24 adults, that is 42 to 167 dollars a person a night before taxes and fees.
