Bachelor and bachelorette weekends

A bachelor or bachelorette weekend house near Bend: the river, the hot tub, and the rules said first

Deschutes Riverfront Retreat is an 11-bedroom riverfront house near Sunriver, Oregon, 30 minutes from Bend, that sleeps up to 30 (maximum 24 adults). It is the right bachelor or bachelorette house if the weekend is a brewery crawl, a float from your own dock, a day on Mt. Bachelor or a golf course, and a long dinner at a 12-foot table. It is the wrong house for a party: the renter must be 30 or older and quiet hours start at 9 PM. The rule on speakers is below.

The catch before the pitch: a 30-and-over renter near Sunriver, quiet at 9, no DJ

Read this section first and decide. The person who books must be 30 or older. Quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, and sound carries on the river, so the late night happens in the hot tub and the great room, not on the deck with a speaker.

No amplified music: no DJs, no subwoofers, no professional music setups. Live music ensembles and small Bluetooth speakers are fine. If unsure, please ask.

Occupancy is 30 with at most 24 adults, because the house is on well and septic. Exterior cameras cover the driveway and the front door only, and there are none inside. A refundable damage deposit of 1,000 dollars is held on your card about a week before check-in and released after checkout.

If that list reads as a relief, keep going. Groups who want a club night book a hotel in Bend; groups who want the river and each other book this.

Three bachelor and bachelorette weekends that work from a house near Sunriver

The house works for three kinds of weekend, and each one uses what Bend and Sunriver already have.

WeekendSeasonThe dayThe night
Brewery and floatJune to SeptemberFloat the Deschutes from the dock or from the Big River ramp 2.5 miles up the road, then the Bend Ale Trail with two assigned driversDinner in Bend or on the grill, hot tub, cards at the 12-foot table
Mt. BachelorDecember to AprilSki or board at Mt. Bachelor, about 30 minutes away; snowshoe from a Sno-ParkFireplaces in both living areas, the covered hot tub, the pool table
Golf and riverApril to OctoberA round at Quail Run or a Bend course in the morning, the dock in the afternoonFire pit when fires are allowed (not June through September), then inside by 9

The float plan for a big group is on floating the Deschutes from Sunriver, the ski plan on Mt. Bachelor ski trip lodging, and the golf plan, with the courses that will take an off-resort group, on the golf trip house page.

The bachelorette version: the hot tub, the river and a massage that comes to you

The spa at Sunriver Resort is for resort guests and members, so do not plan the weekend around it. Mobile massage comes to the house instead, arranged through the Epicurate vendor list, which also covers private chefs and photographers.

The covered hot tub sits on the flagstone patio under the deck with the river beyond the pines. The dock has Adirondack chairs and a hammock, and the sunset over the water is the photo everyone takes. For the night out, where to eat near Sunriver covers the Village and the Bend restaurants that seat a party of 16.

Where 16 friends sleep near Sunriver: 11 rooms, two buildings, and the Cottage for the early-to-bed

Sixteen friends in 11 bedrooms is five shared rooms, six singles, and nobody sharing a bed. The six-bedroom Lodge holds the kitchen, the game room and the hot tub; the five-bedroom Cottage is a separate building a few steps away with its own kitchen and a wood stove.

The bed-by-bed table for all 11 rooms is on large group rentals near Sunriver; the floor plans and 3D tour are on the whole retreat page.

Give the Cottage to the people who want to sleep at 10, and the Lodge bunk rooms to the people who do not. The two buildings are the reason this house works for a mixed group: one can be loud inside while the other is dark.

The night out: Bend is 30 minutes, so assign the drivers before the first beer

Bend is about 30 minutes from the house by car, and the Village at Sunriver about ten. Pick two drivers for the Bend night before anyone opens the cooler, or book a night in that gets everyone back for the hot tub by 9.

The Ale Trail is a passport across about 30 stops, five territories of them in Bend, and a group does three or four in an afternoon, not all of them. Bend from Sunriver for groups lays out the afternoon, the Old Mill and the grocery run on the way home.

From the house: Sunriver Resort and SHARC are five miles and about ten minutes, Bend and Mt. Bachelor are each about 30 minutes, and the Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road.

Food and drink for 16 at a house on the Deschutes

The Lodge kitchen has a large butcher-block island, a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide, a Breville espresso machine and a dishwasher, and the 12-foot table seats twelve on benches with folding tables for the rest. The covered deck has a large gas grill, and four 8-foot picnic tables stand outside.

Bring the alcohol; nothing is provided. A private chef for one dinner is the easiest upgrade for a group of 16, booked through the vendor list. Feeding 30 people near Sunriver has the grocery run and the two-kitchen plan.

The rest of the rules for a friends' weekend near Bend

The rules that decide whether this house fits a group: the renter must be 30 or older, every booking has a 2-night minimum, quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, and occupancy is capped at 30 guests (24 adults) because the home is on well and septic. Dogs are welcome for a pet fee once approved on your reservation. The full list, the deposit and the cancellation terms are on house rules and Book Now.

  • No candles, tiki torches, sparklers or open flame of any kind. The fire pit is closed June through September; May and October depend on the weather.
  • The property is non-smoking, and shoes come off inside.
  • Please bring your own water toys and PFDs for the river; none are provided.
  • No camping on the property unless it is approved in advance.
  • Chief Paulina Drive, the last stretch in, is a shared dirt road: 10 MPH, with families and pets on it.

A dinner for more people than are sleeping over counts as an event: up to 45 on the property with a $500 event fee. Say so when you book.

How to split the cost of a group house covers collecting from sixteen people, and the person getting married.
