Deschutes Riverfront Retreat is an 11-bedroom riverfront house near Sunriver, Oregon, that sleeps up to 30 (maximum 24 adults). For a golf trip of 12 that means almost everyone gets his own room and everyone eats at one 12-foot table, with a hot tub, a pool table and a fire pit for afterward. The catch for a group staying off Sunriver Resort is course access, and this page says which courses will take you.

Why one house near Sunriver beats twelve hotel rooms for a golf trip
A golf trip is four hours on the course and twelve hours of everything else, and the everything else is where a hotel loses. Here the group comes back to one deck, one grill, one table that seats twelve on benches, and a game room with a pool table and ping pong.
The house is two buildings on three acres at the end of a dead-end road, with 450 feet of Deschutes River frontage and a dock. Early tee times are easy: the Lodge kitchen has a Breville espresso machine, and the cars are parked at the door, 15 of them if needed.
A group of 12 men stayed in March 2026 and wrote that the house gave them the three things a group never gets together: a beautiful property, tons of space and a reasonable cost. Their review is below. The quieter version of this trip is the fly-fishing lodge page; the louder one is the bachelor and bachelorette weekend page.
Which golf courses near Sunriver and Bend will take a group staying at the house
Access is the first question, because the best-known course in Sunriver is closed to you. Crosswater is for Crosswater Club members and Sunriver Resort guests, and a group at this house is neither. Plan the weekend around the courses below, in order of how easy they are to book.
| Course | Access for a group at the house | Drive from the house | Book |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quail Run, La Pine | Public, 18 holes, par 72, about 6,900 yards from the back tees | About 15 to 20 minutes | (541) 536-1303 |
| Widgi Creek, Bend | Public; tight tree-lined fairways through the Deschutes National Forest, full bar and banquet space | About 30 minutes | Online or 541-382-4449 |
| Lost Tracks, Bend | Public; 7,000 yards bordered by national forest | About 30 minutes | 541-385-1818 |
| Tetherow, Bend | Semi-private links course; green fees $150 to $245 with cart and range; collared shirts, no denim; group clinics for 4 to 18 | About 30 minutes | 541-213-2424 |
| Meadows and Woodlands, Sunriver Resort | Resort guests book at reservation; a group staying elsewhere calls to ask what it can book | About ten minutes | 541-593-1000 |
| Crosswater, Sunriver Resort | Members and resort guests only | About ten minutes | Not bookable from the house |
Quail Run is the one most golf guides skip, and it is the closest public course to the house. Asked where guests golf, the owners' own answer starts with Quail Run and the other public courses. The golf guide for Sunriver and Bend has the yardages, the seasons and the rate cards for the Bend courses.
A three-day golf weekend from the house: two rounds, one float, no driving after dark
Here is a plan for 12 that works with the courses above and ends every day at the house before quiet hours. Times are examples; the tee times set the day.
| When | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, after 4 PM | Check in, claim rooms, grill on the deck, cards at the 12-foot table | The house |
| Saturday, early | Round one: Widgi Creek or Tetherow, booked weeks ahead for three foursomes | Bend, about 30 minutes |
| Saturday, afternoon | Hot tub, pool table, a float from the dock if the water is warm enough | The house |
| Saturday, evening | Dinner out in Bend or a second grill night; back for the fire pit when fires are allowed | Bend or the house |
| Sunday, morning | Round two: Quail Run, 15 to 20 minutes down the road, then check out by 11 AM, or play after checkout on the way home | La Pine |
Three foursomes need three consecutive tee times, so call the course rather than booking online one slot at a time. Tetherow has a golf and events staff that sets up group outings; the resort's group golf inquiry form at Sunriver is the route for Meadows and Woodlands.
Rooms for 12 golfers: who gets a king and who gets a bunk
Twelve golfers means ten rooms of their own, one shared room, and nobody sharing a bed. Settle the draft before you arrive, or hold a putting contest on the first night for the Primary Suite, which has a king bed and the river view.
The bed-by-bed table for all 11 rooms is on large group rentals near Sunriver; the floor plans and 3D tour are on the whole retreat page.
Clubs stay in the cars or in the mudroom. Nothing on the property is provided for golf: no clubs, no carts, no range.
After the round: the deck, the hot tub, the pool table and a 9 PM house
The wrap-around covered deck has a large gas grill, sturdy tables and chairs, and the river below. Under it is a covered hot tub on the flagstone patio, and the fire pit sits by the water ringed with chairs.
Inside, the game room has a pool table, ping pong, an arcade cabinet and an Xbox, and the great room has a 65-inch TV with DISH for whatever is on that Sunday. Twelve seats at the dining table, benches down both sides.
Quiet hours start at 9 PM and sound carries on the river, so the late beer is a conversation on the deck, not a speaker. Small Bluetooth speakers are fine; a DJ or a subwoofer is not. The fire pit is closed June through September, and in May and October it depends on the weather.

Food for 12 golfers: grill nights and a night out in Bend
The Lodge kitchen has a large butcher-block island, a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide and a dishwasher, and the Cottage has its own kitchen for a second breakfast line on tee-time mornings. Four 8-foot picnic tables stand outside for the lunch that follows the Sunday round.
For the night out, Bend is about 30 minutes; assign two drivers before the first round. Where to eat near Sunriver covers the Village and the Bend options that take a party of 12. Feeding 30 people near Sunriver has the grocery run.
When to come: Sunriver and Bend golf runs April to October
The Bend courses run roughly April through October, with Meadows at Sunriver Resort open longest, roughly March to early November, and each course posts its own dates. Shoulder-season rates in April and October sit well below summer.
In 2027 and 2028 the USGA's U.S. Adaptive Open comes to the Meadows Course the week of the Fourth of July. May golf weekends are the sweet spot for a group: courses open, summer rates not yet in force, and a fire some nights if the weather allows. In winter the same house is 30 minutes from Mt. Bachelor; see Mt. Bachelor ski trip lodging.
Getting to the house from Bend, Sunriver and La Pine
From the house: Sunriver Resort and SHARC are five miles and about ten minutes, Bend and Mt. Bachelor are each about 30 minutes, and the Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road.
For a group flying in, getting to Sunriver covers Redmond Municipal Airport and the drives from Portland, Seattle and Boise. Parking for up to 15 vehicles is at the house. Chief Paulina Drive, the last stretch in, is a shared dirt road at 10 MPH.
The rules that matter for a golf trip
The rules that decide whether this house fits a group: the renter must be 30 or older, every booking has a 2-night minimum, quiet hours run 9 PM to 8 AM, and occupancy is capped at 30 guests (24 adults) because the home is on well and septic. Dogs are welcome for a pet fee once approved on your reservation. The full list, the deposit and the cancellation terms are on house rules and Book Now.
Nobody under 30 can be the renter, which for most golf trips is not a problem. The property is non-smoking, and shoes come off inside.
What a golf weekend here costs and how to book
Nightly rates run about 1,000 to 4,000 dollars plus taxes and fees. For 12 adults, that is 83 to 333 dollars a person a night before taxes and fees. The live calendar on Book Now shows the rate for your dates, and booking direct skips the fees Airbnb and VRBO add. How to split the cost of a group house covers collecting from twelve people.
What golf groups said (the bedroom counts in the 2021 review are the guest's; the house has 11)
“When a large group wants to rent a property, normally you only get two out of three: (1) beautiful property, (2) tons of space, (3) reasonable cost. This was one of the rare cases where we got all three.
It easily slept our group of 12 men, and the new large dining table meant we could all share a meal together. Nearby, the kitchen was well-stocked with appliances and cookware, with all its drawers clearly labeled.
Our host, Scott, was quick to respond to any questions, and checkout was a breeze compared to some other properties I've stayed at. We noticed exactly 12 chairs had been placed around the fire pit outside (not sure if it was a coincidence, but it was considerate if deliberate).
The property was incredibly peaceful - so much so that we woke up on our last day to a herd of elk peacefully roaming across the property.”
“Scott's lodge and cabin by the river was the perfect place to get away. We had a group of 8 guys stay there for a golf trip and had more than enough room to stretch out, play cards and relax. Very quiet location by the Deschutes river with a main lodge with 7 bedrooms and a side cabin with another 6 or so. We made good use of the fire pit and hot tub to warm up after jumping in the water. Scott was very responsive and wanted to make sure the lodge met our expectations. It did and more.”
“Our family enjoyed being together, floating the River, playing golf, games relaxing and seeing the sights nearby. Thanks to Scott for the opportunity! It all went well. Cheers”
