Why the Deschutes River suits a wellness retreat
The estate sits at the end of a dead-end private road. There are 80 acres of trees on one side and protected river habitat across the water. It is about as private as Central Oregon gets.
Sunriver Resort is five miles away, about ten minutes by car, and Bend and Mt. Bachelor are about 30 minutes. The group is far enough out to switch off and close enough for a grocery run or a massage therapist to drive in.
Because you have the whole place for a few days, the sessions and the downtime live side by side. A morning practice on the lawn, an afternoon float from your own dock, dinner on the wrap-around deck. The same estate hosts group retreats and offsites and corporate retreats.
Practice spaces at the Sunriver estate: two living areas, the deck, the lawn and the dock
There are six places to hold a session, and a group of 15 to 25 can use more than one at a time.
| Space | What it is | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Great room (upstairs living area) | Vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace, sectional seating, the open kitchen and the 12-foot dining table | The main session, talks and meals |
| Downstairs living area | Vaulted ceiling and stone fireplace, on the same floor as the game room with the pool table and ping pong | A second circle or a quiet breakout |
| Wrap-around covered deck | Runs the length of the Lodge, covered, with sturdy tables and chairs and a gas grill | Outdoor practice with a roof if the weather turns |
| Lawn | The grassy clearing by the Cottage, with a flagstone path leading to it through the pines | Outdoor practice and walking |
| Private dock | On 450 feet of river frontage, with Adirondack chairs on the dock and a hammock by the water | Small-group sits, mornings and sunsets |
| Flagstone patio and fire pit | Below the deck by the river, the fire pit ringed with chairs; fires are seasonal | Evening circles when fires are allowed |
Plan to bring mats, blocks and props with you. About 16 folding chairs and some folding tables are on site if a session on the lawn needs seating.
How quiet it is: a dead-end road and 80 acres of trees
Chief Paulina Drive is a shared dirt road with families and pets, and the estate sits at the end of a dead-end private road. On one side are 80 acres of forest; across the water is protected river habitat. Please drive slowly on the road.
Quiet hours run 9pm to 8am. No amplified music: no DJs, no subwoofers, no professional music setups. Live music ensembles and small Bluetooth speakers are fine. If unsure, please ask.
You will see wildlife; herons, eagles and otters use the river. You may encounter mosquitoes and other insects; the county works to suppress them. The native landscaping is kept on purpose to support the local habitat.

The Cottage is a separate building steps from the Lodge, so a facilitator or a small sub-group can use it as a quieter base.
Massage and private chefs through Epicurate
We can arrange private chefs and mobile massage for your group through our Epicurate partners. The vendor list also covers photographers.
Mobile massage means nobody leaves the property mid-retreat. A chef can serve dinner at the 12-foot table inside or at the picnic tables outside.

Meals for 25: the kitchen and the 12-foot table
The kitchen is chef-friendly, with a large butcher-block island, a Vitamix, a KitchenAid mixer, a sous vide and a Breville espresso machine. A 12-foot dining table with benches seats twelve inside, and additional chairs and folding tables are available for the rest.
Outside, four 8-foot picnic tables sit in a row for outdoor dining. The covered deck has a large gas grill and a dining set.
For groceries, Bend has Costco, Trader Joe's, Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, WinCo and Newport Avenue Market. The Sunriver Country Store, closer in, covers the essentials. For a night out, see where to eat near Sunriver and make reservations for larger groups.

Movement: the river, the Deschutes River Trail and the Sunriver paths
The river is the first option. Float right from the dock, hand-launch a kayak or paddleboard, or fish the Deschutes subject to seasonal regulations. Bring your own water toys and PFDs; none are provided. The Big River boat ramp, a public put-in, is 2.5 miles up the road. More on the Deschutes at Sunriver.
For walking and cycling, Sunriver has more than 34 miles of paved bike and pedestrian paths, maintained by the Sunriver Owners Association. A 5.5-mile paved pathway links Sunriver to the Lava Lands Visitor Center. Riders can follow the paths to the Deschutes River and Benham Falls. Ride single file and let walkers know when you pass.
For a longer walk or ride, the Deschutes River Trail follows the Upper Deschutes from the Meadow Picnic Area. It is 1.2 miles to Lava Island Falls, 4.5 miles to Dillon Falls and 8.5 miles to Benham Falls, 17 miles there and back.
Sunriver Sports, in the Village at Sunriver, rents bikes in summer. See mountain biking near Sunriver for the Phil's network, Tyler's Traverse and the Bend rental shops.

What groups said
“We had a team retreat at this location and it was more than ideal! Had multiple people spread out through the house playing cards, pool, reading by the water, cooking food and more. It was peaceful and fun. Our team hasn’t stopped talking about it and wants to make it a regular trip. Scott was very communicative and responsive. I was able to ask some questions while on property during our stay and he got back to me right away.
We are looking forward to making this an annual trip to kick off our collegiate volleyball season!”
“This was a magical location, we absolutely loved our coffee on the dock in the morning and the gorgeous sunsets along the river at night. We hope to be back, it was perfect for our staff retreat.”
“When a large group wants to rent a property, normally you only get two out of three: (1) beautiful property, (2) tons of space, (3) reasonable cost. This was one of the rare cases where we got all three.
It easily slept our group of 12 men, and the new large dining table meant we could all share a meal together. Nearby, the kitchen was well-stocked with appliances and cookware, with all its drawers clearly labeled.
Our host, Scott, was quick to respond to any questions, and checkout was a breeze compared to some other properties I've stayed at. We noticed exactly 12 chairs had been placed around the fire pit outside (not sure if it was a coincidence, but it was considerate if deliberate).
The property was incredibly peaceful - so much so that we woke up on our last day to a herd of elk peacefully roaming across the property.”
